PUERTO CANCÚN
INITIATES PRELIMINARY CONSTRUCTION
- Puerto Cancun is a reality!
- Puerto Cancun will diversify Cancun’s tourism offer
with the first full-scale marina and professional golf course.
Cancun Q. Roo, August 2004. One
of the most awaited projects in Cancun, Puerto Cancun, initiated
preliminary construction today. This project represents an investment
of more than one billion dollars during the next ten years, according
to its Master Plan.
The preliminary works include the realization of various land
and water studies within the property, equipment mobilization,
access routes and the introduction of basic services. In parallel,
we will continue with our important fauna and flora rescue labour
that we started three years ago to undergo a future reforestation
effort in the property and the region.
The complete project construction will take approximately 10 years,
however urbanization will be ready in four years. Just the basic
infrastructure will have an investment of 127 million dollars.
In the same way, Puerto Cancun will contribute with the regional
development, creating 10 thousand direct jobs and 25 thousand
indirect during the next 5 years.
“Puerto Cancun has a strategic importance because it will
revitalize the most important tourist destination of Mexico. With
a full-scale marina, we want to reach the more than 35 thousand
yacht, mega yachts and sailboat owners who live on the US East
Coast and along the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, this market prefers
other Caribbean destinations because they do not find the necessary
nautical infrastructure along the Mexican Caribbean.”
“On a different note, our group wishes to support the creation
of a regional professional circuit of golf courses, a fast-growing
market that will also attract a higher scale tourism that is always
looking for new challenges”.
Puerto Cancun is a sustainable project that considers its pacific
cohabitation with nature, for which it undergoes a strong rescue
and reforestation effort. We have assigned 74 hectares for mangrove
conservation, and since 1998, our nursery has grown to more than
90 thousand plants and 44 different species.
Puerto Cancun will be the most complete tourist development of
the region, with five principal areas:
- Full-scale marina – World
class marina services will be offered, including dry dockage
and capacity to receive 330 yachts up to 230 feet high. A public
yacht club will also be featured for both the local community
and visitors.
- Public professional golf course
– This 18-hole pga golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf
promises to be a highlight among the upcoming golf circuit in
the Cancun-Riviera Maya corridor. Equipped with its own Club
House, professionals and amateurs alike will enjoy for the first
time in Mexico a good golf game overlooking the Caribbean ocean.
- Residential Area – The
development will offer residencies and apartments overlooking
the ocean, the golf course and the water canals, some with their
own private dock, and all of them with ample green areas and
strict security.
- Hotel Zone – Will have
the capacity to build up to 4,288 hotel rooms offering high-quality
service in five-star facilities.
- Boardwalk and Commercial Zone
– Open to all, these public areas will undoubtedly be
a highlight for Cancun residents and tourists looking to enjoy
a stroll in an attractive entertainment area.
